Church of Santa Efigenia – Afro brazilian syncretism, displays candomble simbols in it's altars and paintings. Was built and run by blacks on the XVIII century.
Aleijadinho's Museum – Located at the Our Lady of Conception Church it shows, among some pieces by Aleijadinho, sacred art. This great brazilian artist is buried there.
Church Our Lady of Pilar – Sample of the second period of the baroque style in Minas Gerais. Holds processional pieces including gold and silver museum.
Church of Saint Francis of Assisi – Rococo style temple. It is considered the Aleijadinho and Master Atayde's masterpiece.
Historical Museum – Former Municipal Council and jail of Ouro Preto. Currently the museum displays pieces related to the gold rush and the revolution from 1789.
Mineralogy Museum – Natural History, metallurgy, mineralogy and gemology rooms. Twenty five thousand pieces of minerals in its collection.
Theater – Oldest Opera House (1785) in South America still in use.
Coinage House – In the begining it was a private home. After that the spot where the portuguese crowd use to charge taxes and also melt the gold before shipping to Europe. |
