Church of Santa Efigenia – Afro brazilian syncretism, displays candomble simbols in it's altars and paintings. Was built and run by blacks on the XVIII century.

Aleijadinho's Museum – Located at the Our Lady of Conception Church it shows, among some pieces by Aleijadinho, sacred art. This great brazilian artist is buried there.

Church Our Lady of Pilar – Sample of the second period of the baroque style in Minas Gerais. Holds processional pieces including gold and silver museum.

Historical Museum – Former Municipal Council and jail of Ouro Preto. Currently the museum displays pieces related to the gold rush and the revolution from 1789.

Mineralogy Museum – Natural History, metallurgy, mineralogy and gemology rooms. Twenty five thousand pieces of minerals in its collection.

Theater – Oldest Opera House (1785) in South America still in use.

Coinage House – In the begining it was a private home. After that the spot where the portuguese crowd use to charge taxes and also melt the gold before shipping to Europe.

To the west of Praça Tiradentes, in Rua São José, is the Casa dos Contos (1782), the finest secular building in Ouro Preto. It was originally the residence of the Intendant João Rodrigues de Macedo, and it was also in this building that the gold won by the miners was weighed and smelted under his supervision. Later it was used for a time as a prison; among those confined here were Cláudio Manuel da Costa (who was found dead in his cell two days after his arrest) and others concerned in the Inconfidência. Visitors can see the smelting furnaces and rooms furnished in 18th century style. The Salão Nobre has 18th century ceiling paintings which were discovered in 1974 during restoration work. In an adjoining building is the Center for the Study of the Gold-Mining Period.

15km/9.3mi (12km/7.5mi of it on foot) south of Ouro Preto, in the Itacolomi nature park, is the Pico do Itacolomi (1752m/5748ft), on which is the source of the little Rio Ouro Preto. It can be reached from Avenida do Contorno, on the south side of the town.
