Basic Info.

The port of Cozumel is the most important cruise destination in Mexico and one of the busiest in the world. Cozumel, Mexico’s largest inhabited island, receives 43 percent of the nation’s cruise ship arrivals. The port’s modern infrastructure offers a ferry terminal and three main stations (Punta Langosta, Puerto Maya and San Miguel) receive 23 large ships. All the terminals have restaurants, bars, duty-free and souvenir stores, travel agencies, car rental agencies and much more. Located in the Mexican Caribbean, in the state of Quintana Roo, Cozumel has an airport, exclusive tourist resorts and shopping centers. Its crystalline warm waters make it the ideal place to scuba dive and snorkel.

Ships

Mexico has become one of the leading destinations worldwide for cruise ship travel. Each year, more than 10 million tourists arrive at Mexico’s coasts aboard international cruise liners. On board, passengers can enjoy casinos, stores, gyms, live shows, dance clubs and a wide selection of food. The ports along the coasts of the Pacific Ocean, the Mexican Caribbean and the Sea of Cortez, where most foreign visitors arrive, are equipped with modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art terminals offering comfort and safety. One of the most popular ports is Cozumel. During the first five months of last year, more than 1.5 million people arrived there on cruise ships. Another example is Majahual, on the Mayan coast, which has rapidly grown as  one of the most important destinations for cruise liners. In fact, it is there where the Voyager of the Seas arrives every two weeks. The Voyager is the largest cruise ship in the world with a capacity of 6,000 passengers. The ports of Ensenada, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan offer cruises to travelers looking for an exclusive atmosphere, as well as more accessible family packages. They also have cruises for newlyweds, singles and even nudists. Because of Mexico’s famed natural beauty, interesting history and strong traditions, it draws top cruise liners, such as Carnival (the largest in the world and the market leader), Royal Caribbean International and Star Cruises, which has a fleet of 125 ships.
