The former Hotel Hartenstein acted as the headquarters of the British 1st Airborne Division during the Battle of Arnhem, now remembered as ’A bridge too far’. Many of those at that battle were killed, wounded, or captured fighting through the strong German opposition, or, after the failure of the assault, trying to hold out on the banks of the Rhine until reinforcements arrived. The Airbone Museum offers tours of the battle site, and holds exhibitions on various aspects of the battle. |

Bronbeek Museum Velperweg 147, Arnhem - Netherlands The Museum Bronbeek is located between Arnhem and Velp, in a building which was once the home of ex-soldiers. The building was donated to the soldiers by William III in 1859, but now serves as a museum, holding souvenirs and mementos brought back to the country by soldiers who had served in Surinam and Indonesia during the Dutch occupation of those countries. |

Burgers’ Zoo and Safari Park houses more than 3,000 animals in an 18 hectare area. The zoo attendants aim to provide the animals with as natural an environment as possible, and the zoo is regarded highly for its natural habitats and enclosures. There is a safari park and a ’bush jungle’ inhabited by tropical animals and plants. There are also artificial desert and ocean areas that give visitors a chance to get up close with those special ecosystems. |

The Nederlands Openluchtmuseum (or, Open Air Museum) is a large architecture museum which was founded in 1912. The museum aims to ’present a picture of the daily life of ordinary people in this country as it was in the past and has developed in the course of time’ – there are more than 80 buildings here, which have been transported across the country and reconstructed here, including windmills, farm houses, bridges, and working craft shops. |

St Eusebius church, also known as The Groote Kerk, was built between 1452 and 1560. The church was severely damaged during World War II, and lost most of its tower during bombings. A part of the tower was reconstructed to a modern design, and re-opened to visitors in 1964. This tower is not classed as a part of the church any more, and is owned by the municipality. |

The Dutch Wine Museum (or, Nederlands Wijnmuseum) is located near Velp in Arnhem. The museum holds regular wine tastings, and educates visitors on the process of making wine, all the way from the grape to the bottle. On certain days, you can visit the wine cellars below the museum where literally thousands of litres of wine are stored in barrels, waiting to be drank. There are guide books available in both Dutch and English. |
