The A-Kerk is a Romanesque church located near the Corn Exchange in Groningen. It was originally called the Dra-Kerk, and was constructed in 1247. It is dedicated to the Virgin and All Saints. The church was drastically re-built in the 15th century to a more Gothic style, and had a tower added on in the 18th century, although this has since collapsed. The interior features some beautiful 15th century decoration, and the entire building underwent some restoration work in the mid 1970s. |

The Nederlands Stripmusem (or, Dutch Comic Museum) is located on Westerhaven in Groningen. It is a modern museum devoted to Dutch comic strips and graphic art. The museum is divided up into several areas which highlight different forms of comic. There are sections devoted to Dutch comic strip heroes such as Suske en Wiske, Jan, and Dirkjan, as well as sections specifically targeting children, adults, and comic book connoisseurs. The Goudkantoor, or Gold Office is located just behding the Town Hall in Groningen. It was constructed in 1635, and was originally intended for use as a tax office. Over the years, the building has seen many uses – having been a test bureau for gold and silver works, a naval museum, and a home for the tourist office. Today, the building houses a restaurant. The paint work has been restored to the original colours red, ochre, and gold colour scheme. |

The Grafisch Museum, or Graphics Museum is located on Rabenhauptstraat in Groningen. It is a museum devoted to the history of all forms of visual art, from textiles to the printing press. The museum has a varied collection including a 19th century steam driven printing press, and some modern day word processors. The museum occasional hosts themed exhibitions, and has several art related workshops, including ones for children, which run throughout the year. The workshops usually have limited places, so it is best to confirm attendance in advance. |

The Lauwersmeer National Park is located on the Groningen-Frisian border. It was founded in 1969 after the construction of the dam between the Wadden Sea and the old lake. The area has developed into a very scenic place, which provides home to many species of birds, as well as fish and rare flora. The park offers many opportunities for fishing, windsurfing, and cycling, as well as just wandering around and enjoying the scenery created as a result of the land reclamation. |

The Scheepvaart en Niemeyer Tabacksmuseum (Northern Maritime and Miemeyer Tobacco Museum) is housed in two medieval buildings. The main sections of the museum display models, instruments, charts, and paintings that examine the history of Groningen’s shipping industry. The topics include trade, inland waterway transport, life at sea, shipbuilding, fishing, and whaling. The other part of the museum looks at Holland’s involvement in the tobacco trade, with a variety of items related to tobacco usage over the centuries. |
