Veteran's Beach is wonderful for small children because it has no great drop-off and the waves are very small and gentle.
Both of these beaches have restrooms and Veteran's Beach has a snack bar as well. The water temperature at these two Hyannis beaches is the warmest ocean water between Cape Cod and Florida! This is because the Nantucket Sound is relatively shallow and has a sandy bottom. This reflects the sunlight and warms the water appreciably. In addition, the Gulf Stream flows through just the other side of Nantucket and this brings warm water all the way up from the Caribbean to this part of Cape Cod.
Here you can see the big car ferry leaving for Nantucket. This photo was taken from the balcony at the Harbor House Inn. The ferry passes by both of Hyannis' beaches several times a day.
